Adding repositories...

I installed 10.3 for the install dvd. At that time I did not have an
Internet connection so I did not include any online repositories. Now I
would like to add them. Each time I try to add the main OSS after
agreeing to the license agreement the program crashes and sends a bug
report somewhere. It does not matter if I use the Community Repository
program or the Software Repositories program. I tried the Online Update
but it keeps telling me there are no updates.

Ted

Did you add by URL in the repo manager?

Copy and paste:
OSS
Index of /distribution/10.3/repo/oss

Non-OSS
Index of /distribution/10.3/repo/non-oss

Updates
Index of /update/10.3

> Copy and paste:

Yes, I tried that. Then I tried simply selecting the repositories in the
Community Repositories. Both ways the program crashed and sent a message
to Gnome. I was able to select the GNOME:stable and GNOME:Community
repositories. However, the oss and the updates caused the repository
configuration program to crash.

Try using zypper
Zypper/Usage/10.3 - openSUSE

Once you get updates added and do an update you might find it will all be ok.

I thank you for trying to help. However, the Zipper repo did not work
either. After downloading a bunch of files it also started giving
errors. “An error occured while preparing the installation system.”

What is with this? Why do the main repositories not work? I am supposed
to expect OpenSuSE Linux not to crash when the people distributing it
cannot keep the repositories from crashing a fresh install?

This seems like a microsoft joke. I was so sick of microsoft that I
started looking for a different option. Now I get this.

Now try using a mirror local or as local as you can to you

Mirrors Released Version - openSUSE

But these are all release 11.0 and my computer is 10.3 (but freshly
installed).

In a terminal type:

zypper lr

post result here

The BuildService repo’s were added only to see if any repo’s could be
added. When they worked I disabled them.

Ok so have a look here, maybe try a cleanup

Getting Started with openSUSE - openSUSE

and try again as su

zypper ar Index of /update/10.3

I tried adding the update 10.3 repo using the text version of yast and
it gave me this message:

I did this:
migmar11:/etc/zypp/repos.d # sqlite3 /var/cache/zypp/zypp.db vacuum

Then I did this:
migmar11:/home/mmi # zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/update/10.3/
‘Index
of /update/10.3’

So far so good. Then I tried this:

migmar11:/etc/zypp/repos.d # zypper refresh
Repository ‘openSUSE-10.3-DVD 10.3’ is up to date.
Refreshing ‘Index of /update/10.3’
Segmentation fault

Oops! That does not seem to be what it is supposed to do. I tried this:

migmar11:/etc/zypp/repos.d # sqlite3 /var/cache/zypp/zypp.db vacuum
migmar11:/etc/zypp/repos.d # zypper refresh
Repository ‘openSUSE-10.3-DVD 10.3’ is up to date.
Refreshing ‘Index of /update/10.3’
Segmentation fault

I have no idea what the problem is. The system in the US worked just
fine but this one does not.

So what happens if you go to Yast -Software management
filter by repo
go to updates

are there blue packages listed
if so
try update all in this list if new ver avail. (from the packages tab at the top - unless you are gnome, then you will have to scroll the list and check them)

There are none, because the system does not update, because I cannot get
the update repo to work. The install DVD has not changed since I
installed the system. :frowning:

I thought I might try a repo closer to the computer with the problem. So
I tried this:
migmar11:/etc/zypp/repos.d # zypper ar
ftp://seeder.yandex.net/opensuse/update/1
0.3/ ’ seeder yandex update 10.3’

Skipping repository ’ seeder yandex update 10.3’ because of the above error.

Some of the repositories have not been refreshed because of an error.

Hi
I’m having a similar problem. I also has 10.3. The yast software management, tries to access mirror service repositories from http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/10.3/rep/oss
and failed. Therefore I manually checked the mirror service website and unfortunately distribution 10.3 is no longer available.(UK Mirror Service: sites/ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution) Any idea on what to do is greatly appreciated.
