Hi all -
I’m running suse 11.4 and have 2 SATA3 solid state drives connected to the motherboard. The OS is on one drive and the second drive is totally blank with nothing on it. There is no software or hardware RAID at all.
Now, I’m going to be adding one of these:
Newegg.com - Intel RT3WB080 PCI-Express x8 Low Profile SATA III (6.0Gb/s) RAID Controller
I will then connect both hard drives to this controller. My goal is to use both drives in a RAID0 configuration. Please no comments about the risks of doing this or if one drive crashes or what not, my data is backed up regularly and I keep my important stuff on a remote RAID5 NAS.
My questions:
- Will suse even boot when I do this?
- Do I need to do things before adding the hardware to add support for this?
- Am I better off just re-installing the OS, and will the installer work out of the box with this hardware?
I’m not a Linux expert, but I can follow directions pretty well. What’s my best route for this upgrade? Thanks!
Mike
