Add [Solved] prefix option to thread tools

Hi!

Could it be possible to get thread tools to mark thread as solved?

Thank you!

P.S.: it would help when performing search for trouble fixing. You’d know which threads actually worked, and which not.

This is (of course) discussed earlier. The conclusion being that an OP posting that it is solved for him (best going with an explanation what (s)he did to get it right, because often many suggestions are given in a thread) is sufficient.

Having a status/tag or whatever saying Solved will not work because:

  • many people do not report back if the answers they got helped them (such impolite behaviour is is more common then you would think);
  • even if an OP says something is no longer a problem for him, others may think different and continue the discussion; a thread is not “owned” bythe OP, but by the community;
  • even when a thread is not “solved” as such (specialy to the OP), it may contain much usefull information about the subject; the conclusion could even be that the problem should not be solved at all, because it is against the design of Linux/security/common sense or whatever.

And about the search functionality (either the one from the forums, which isn’t to good IMHO, or using Google with the site: feature), you can bet that a few keywords that show you a solved problem of 2008 wil not help you much today.

I agree with that. I find it little better than useless. :open_mouth:

There are also issue with the implementation of this here, as openSUSE forum also uses NNTP
