How can I add the root user to the login screen with SUSE 11 ? So that I can select either my standard user, or the root user if it is needed, thanks.
Hi
Assuming that this is the KDM login, you can edit this via YaST ->
System -> /etc/sysconfig editor. Then search for KDM_USERS, the hit the
goto button.
Now I would recommend you don’t do this for security reasons, all root
activity can be done with either sudo or su from the users directory.

Yes I have a fresh install of SUSE 11 with KDE 4.0 desktop. But with that su or sudo to be as root, don’t I need to type that in each time in the Terminal Konsole, otherwise I keep getting asked for my root privillages password ?
Hi
Just open a konsole and use the command;
su -
Then you will have a super user (root) konsole session running to run
your commands from. I think sudo runs for about 5 minutes without
asking for your password again.
Once you have finished with your root user session, just type exit.
It is much better just to run the commands you need to run and then
exit.

It is not the way I prefer to things but just type root as user in the login screen and root password and you login as root
