Add ability to mark thread "Solved" and a link to "Jump to solution"

This forum would become VERY useful if two features were added:

  1. Ability to mark a thread as solved

This would not only put a “SOLVED” at the beginning of the title, but also be a feature in the search form where you could choose to view only “solved” threads.

  1. Ability to mark a specific post in the thread as your solution (only OP can mark it this way)

This would result in a big link at the top of the thread (and also an icon in the forum board next to the thread title) that would “Jump to solution”. If you click that, it would take you directly to the post that was marked as the solution.

This is not as critical, but I’d also add:

When marking a post as the “solution” it would also require you to enter:

  1. version of opensuse (or other OS)
  2. model/make of the computer
  3. 32-64 bit
  4. graphics cards
  5. ram
  6. storage
  7. optional extra data

Then others could come in and mark it as also a solution for them with their setup or “not a solution” and their setup. This way, people could see quickly if it will help solve their problem given their setup and if not, perhaps offer a different solution for their setup. (And this could then be used in searching)

+1 for this suggestion. Many forums around web use this kind of thing !

Please search this forum for previous discussions on this suggestion and
why we have opted not to implement it.

This is somewhat related to the reasons outlined in past threads for the
previous suggestion - if I have a problem that looks like yours, but
isn’t quite yours, the solution you’ve marked as the solution may not
work for me. Linux problems do tend to be either very simple or more
complex, and the more complex problems often can use an existing
discussion as a starting point, but have a completely different
underlying issue, even though they present as nearly identical.

This would require customization to vBulletin to implement - and that’s
unlikely because very modification makes it more complex to update when a
security patch comes out for the forum software.

They are good suggestions (I don’t want you to think that I think they’re
not), just that they’re not practical to implement for various reasons,
some of which have been explored in-depth in the past.
