I want to setup a different wifi network (ad hoc) to connect my mobile phone.
I went to Knetworkmanager (systemtray icon). Add wifi, mode: ad-hoc, security wep (read somehwere that other encryption is not supported by networkmanager).
But it does not show up. Do I need to enable a server somewhere? Or does it not work if I am connected through wifi myself?

NM uses wpa_supplicant, and can support all types of encryption. Another reason
not to believe what you read.

A particular device can be set to be in “managed”, “ad-hoc”, or “master” mode.
If your device uses a mac80211-based driver, then you can use utility iw to
create a virtual interface of type ibss. You can see the setup at http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Documentation/iw/vif/. You will not be able
to do this with YaST, or with any connection editor.
