ACPI Power Management

Nothing in power management works. Fan spins at full, hibernate doesn’t work, and the files don’t seem to exist in the directories as outlined in reference book. The entire /sys directory is empty after “upgrade” to 11.4.

So the /sys folder is not empty and so the openSUSE “upgrade” did work properly. Here is what I get in the /sys folder:

linux-6m6e:/sys # dir
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Jul 14 17:22 block
drwxr-xr-x 16 root root 0 Jul 14 17:22 bus
drwxr-xr-x 46 root root 0 Jul 14 17:22 class
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 0 Jul 14 17:22 dev
drwxr-xr-x 12 root root 0 Jul 14 17:22 devices
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 0 Jul 14 17:22 firmware
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 0 Jul 14 17:22 fs
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 0 Jul 14 17:21 kernel
drwxr-xr-x 130 root root 0 Jul 14 17:22 module
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Jul 14 17:22 power

I am going to suggest you consider doing a clean install of openSUSE and format the “/” main folder. If you did maintain a separate /home folder, you can change the install to not format but just mount it, but otherwise, I would start over and then see what works for you.

Thank You,

how did that happen? it certainly is not the result expected of an upgrade!

do you have a full system backup from prior to the upgrade attempt?

which of these supported and known successful upgrade paths did you take:

  1. http://tinyurl.com/35p966c

  2. http://tinyurl.com/6kvoflv

  3. off machine back-up data; test ability to access/retrieve data;
format, install and set-up new operating system; reintroduce data.
