Acer ultrabook problem

Hello and thanks. I recently bought a new Acer Aspire M Ultrabook and installed Opensuse on it. Then, through some hardware malfunction, the motherboard just completely fritzed out. My question is: is there any way I can retrieve the files from the laptop HD? I’m pretty confident that there’s nothing wrong with the OS or filesystem. Please Help!

Sure, yes.

Pull the HD and keep it to one side.

You will be able to connect the HD to any other computer/laptop to
get at the data.
You will also need a suitable place to store the info from the HD

I’ve tried that, using an Apricorn SATA to USB cable and a laptop running Ubuntu. The computer doesn’t read the drive as an external, and it freezes when I try to boot from USB.

The Laptop that runs Ubuntu
Couldn’t you pull it’s HD and connect the other one?
Boot a Live CD of Ubuntu or Mint to access the files and copy them to a
USB HD or flash drive?

I did just this last week on a customers HD pulled from a Dell XPS

I was skeptical, but that did it. Didn’t need the live cd either; it booted right up from the hd. You just saved me hundreds of dollars in music files. Thanks!

No worries mate
