Acer Aspire One Install Problems

Has anyone figured out how to install open suse 11.1 on an acer aspire one. It keeps having problems installing packages. I’ve tried unclicking everyone of the boxes and then it picks all the mandatory packages after you hit next. I just don’t understand why nothing but ubuntu netbook remix will run on this platform.

I don’t get it. Of course it selects the mandatory packages by default.
What’s next? Any errors?

Uwe

Yes as it is installing I have to cancel installing packages. I have tried it several times. And one time I lost count at 200 packages that I had to cancel out of during the install process. I have never fully installed the OS. It is the oddest thing and I just don’t know why. I am suspecting that it has something to do with KDE 4.1 but I will see next time I install it. Any Ideas.

Tried that doesn’t really get me anywhere. This is a weird issue. I have never come accross this before. I have installed linux onto many different computers, and this little computer just baffles me.

Your installation medium is broken.

Yeah I tried the KDE live cd instead of the installation DVD and same problem. I think I am going to try to order a DVD from opensuse.org. See if that does the trick. But I like the ideas keep them coming. And I thank anyone who does help here.

I’m confused too - what are you actually trying to do?

Have you let it install everything it wants to install to see if that works? Or don’t you have room on the drive?

Why is it necessary to cancel packages?

  • brickerhaus,
when you boot from the DVD, one menu option is to verify the media. Please do that and report back. It really sounds as if your DVD is broken, as AKoellh said.
