Installed 185.18.36
ran ‘sax2 -r -m0=nvidia’ (to create a completely new xorg.conf based on usage of nvidia driver)
Choose Change Configuration
Set monitor to LCD@1920x1080
Did NOT test, just saved and exitted.

but you did not use the opensuse 11.1 distro, did you? It is known to work with ubuntu but I have yet to hear from someone who managed it with opensuse 11.1.
I followed EXACTLY your procedure and it failed, when the X server starts, the 1920x1080 mode gets ignored and it falls back to 1024x768
I also tried with different kernels, the 2.7.27 kernel delivered with opensuse 11.1 and the 2.7.31-rc7, both setups fail.

yup I tried both.
I also tried with the open source “nv” driver and another one I can’t remember the name. All fail to get the max resolution.

Hi
I installed the 185.18.36 drivers (had an earlier version of 185 before) and did the procedure as you described. After this
I get 1024 as res when I log in. If I then start nvidia-settings
and change to auto (still no 1080p choice) I get a very nice
image quality and the xterm fonts go small. It looks like 1080p
but everything says 1680 still. However, when I try and save this
to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf with the settings tool (both merge and not merge option) I does not work. When I log in again I get the old 1680.

Spaces need to be inbetween 2 and -r and inbetween r and -m. AFAICS they were.

Hi,
Here is the conf file that I get after doing the install + sax.
This file gives me default 1024 res when I log in but allows me
to change the res in nvidia-settings to auto and I now get a nice
quality rendering of the screen. It looks much wider than “my usual” 1680 comparing the size of the taskbar etc.
Everything still says 1680 though:

When I subsequently log out/in I get the “usual” 1680 bad
quality rendering and in no situatuation am I offered 1080p
resolution. Using sax2 instead of the nvidia-settings you
can select 1920 res but the configuration will not load or still show 1024 res.
I have very little hair left on my head by now…
