Accidentally downgraded python. Can't get gui up now

I had a perfectly working Opensuse11.1 install with XBMC and accidentally downgraded python from 2.6 trying to install sopcatqui. Caused a lot of issue, but I resolved most, but I can’t get a gui up locally on the machine

Here is some info
The machine boots into init3
if I init 5 it just the screen flashes and stays dark.
I can access a gui using vnc or NX
I luanch sax2 from that gui(remotely) and I see that my nvidia 6350 is up, but when I hit test is says testing failed. Sax ok : "X configuration: No information

I reinstalled nvidia drivers nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-default from one click and from yast

ran sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia
and got…
SaX: initializing please wait…
SaX: your current configuration will not be read in
SaX: no X-Server is running

From level3 you can login as user, go su, then type:

yast

use this yast interface to roll back/upgrade - whatever

I’ve upgraded back to python 2.6 and reloaded all the drivers … Can’t find anything else in yast that helps.

Alertately, download and manually install the nvidia drivers in runlevel 3. Perhaps the distro link has some older xorg dependencies.

Yes you could try this. Or perhaps first from level 3 as root, run

sax2 -r

I downloaded the RPM’s from nvidia and uninstalled the drivers and then installed the rpms and ran this command

sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia

same screen flashes on the local monitor and then a black screen…

sax2 -r produces the same result. I don’t see anything in the logs that helps
