Accessing the Package Management Failed

Hi im new to linux and a get this message when I access the On line update for the second time. The first time I updated all recommended patches.
The computer was restarted between the second update.
Thank for any help.

Some things to try:

  1. Re-run Online Update Configuration module in YaST
  2. Make sure the updater applet is not running
  3. Look in /var/run/ and rename yast.pid or zypp.pid
  1. I have done number one.
  2. I don’t no were i can see if the applet is running
  3. yast.pid or zypp.pid isn’t in /var/run/ (have lock t for hidden files.)

When I run the on line update is empty when I click on both Available and Installed.

Do you have more ideas?

Run the Online Update Configuration tool instead of the one your chose.

I can’t find that tool.
(I have now change to SLES10 server) and I have the same problem.

yast->software->online update configuration

I cant find that.
I only have “Novell Customer Configuration” and “Online Update”
I have tried them and I still don get any new updates.

Do some one have some new idea?

Hi
You should have received an activation code, this is what you need to
activate the repositories. There are no ‘online’ repositories except
the ‘official’ novell ones.

Once you have the activation code, you can activate via YaST or use the
CLI.

suse_register -a email=<your_novell_loging_email> -a
regcode-sled=<you_activation_code>

Then (if you tail the /var/log/zmd-messages.log) you should see the
repositories added.

I have get the message
Novell Customer Center Configuration
Your configuration was successful.
An update server has been added to your configuration

When I then run the online update it is no new patches
(There were some patches for 6 days ago but I believe that it should be some new.)

Hi
What about if you run the SPident and/or rug command from the cli?

SPident
rug ref
rug lu

I also noticed you said SLES, rather than SLED can you just look at
the /var/log/zmd-messages.log and check your getting updates from a
sles-10 directory rather than a sled-10 directory. If so you will need
to login to the novel site and delete the subscription from the
Customer Centre and re run the command with regcode-sles=

I am using the 64 bit version of SUSE Linux Enterprise server 10
(I was hoping that one should work better)
I have run the command you recommended and this is the result
I also show some part of the log file at the end.

I Don’t know but it seems that i works now.
I have run the software installer and there Click t on the Configure
And then checked the SLES 10-SP2-Online
And now I get some update in the "automatically update icon at bottom of the desktop

I hope it works now and thank you all for the tips

Hi
Yes, your picking up the SLES updates so that’s good. I recommend a
read of rug man page and look at setting the rollback command to true,
then if you get a screwy update you can go back in time to before the
packages were added.

rug set rollback True
