Perhaps you should install a current version of SUSE first. I don’t think the USB serial driver will work with such an ancient Linux kernel. Not to mention the security issues with the old software you have.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for replying. Before installing suse 8.2 i tried to install suse linux 10 which has 4 cds. Everything got installed and it got restarted…after restarting the welcome screen was not proceeding further to ask the root password…my system was hanged…i tried installing two times, but issue was the same…so i had to install 8.2. Any suggestion on this…

Start a new thread about that. BTW not sure which you mean by SUSE 10. If you mean OpenSUSE 10.0 or 10.1, those are also obsolete. 10.2 doesn’t have much life left either. If you mean Novell’s SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10, then you should state so and I believe there is a different forum for the Enterprise products.

Also does your computer have insufficient memory?

It wud be better if you download the latest suse 11.0 or atleast 10.3 and install suse from scratch.
Also tell us about ur system main memory
