Access denied could not write to SMB when copying but can create new folders and files

Samba SMB file server has mysteriously started giving errors when trying to upload files to the server. (Using DKE Dolphin.)

Access denied. Could not write to smb://

Strangely, I can create new folders and files in the Samba share. But I cannot upload files.

Even guest full-permissions shares give the error.

The setup was previously working.

The server has plenty of free disk space.

Likely impacted by this regression:

Are you saying you are using smb to share folders between two suse installations??
If so, I think that is making life difficult, you make two sides talking “window-ese” to each other while there are linux built-in possibilities.

Tell me more, because I’ve long been informed that SMB is the better choice over NFS (example) because it works just as well plus works with Windows and Macs too?

My SMB server has been working fine for years but is now giving this “access denied” error.

I don’t know anything further than the KDE discussion I linked to. Based on that discussion, a fix is in the pipeline.

Exact same problem here.
Long time stable NAS-smb and kWallet settings unchanged. After Tumbleweed update I cannot create/copy files but can create directories.

Now, I did an update through yast and not via Discover. It didn’t show the update there(?). And my NAS-smb works again… all fine…
I can copy and create files… all normal… :man_shrugging:

I never said SMB doesn’t work, I use it myself to give Win laptops access to shares on my Mageia desktop, but between linux installations I use NFS. A lot less complicated in my eyes.
