About VNC "server cannot be found"

Hello all.
I am using OpenSUSE 11.2 with KDE 4.3.1. I would like to connect as a VNC client with KRDC to a VNC server (RealVNC) running on a Windows XP computer. I try to connect typing “<IP_adress>:5900” in KRDC but it does not work (message “Server cannot be found” is displayed). Same problem if I type “http://<IP_adress>:5800” in Firefox (3.5). The default ports (5800 for http and 5900 for TCP) seem to be correctly open on the server but perhaps the antivirus (free AVG) is not correctly configured and I do not know how to properly configure it… Pinging the VNC server IP adress does not work too… Has anyone an idea ? Thanks a lot.

Try the command line application (vncviewer) just to see if it’s vnc via rdp that’s not working (krdp is not necessarily vnc). The command is simple:

vncviewer 123.456.789.10:0

0 is the port (0=5900, 1=5901 etc). Mofre command options are available here: TightVNC (VNC Xvnc) on openSUSE as Client or Server (Remote Desktop Connections)

OK, thanks for your answer. But I am now using LogMeIn which works correctly and easily !

Good for you. Interesting – I didn’t think of logMeIn from Linux, but of course all you need is a browser.
