About music

Hi,
I saw that was a thread about music (what music do you listen) but it appears to be dead (or just asleep).
I think a thread about music is a “must have” in every forum. After all music is a big (or little) part of everyone’s life. And from a thread like this for sure one find a lot of new things.
I am trying to continue the discution form “April screenshots”.
I like music a lot. I like rock (from Led Zeppelin to Napalm Death), blues, jazz and classical music (right now I listen Mahler, B. Haitink, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Symphony no.2).
My time does not allow me to listen music as much as I want.
So, from this thread (April screenshots) I find many interesting things: Johnny Cash - I did not listen, but ignorance is a bliss. Now, after I listen “Ain’t no grave” and “Hurt” - who I know it but from N.I.N. - one of my favorite songs from this band, Johhny Cash is on my list. Thank you all for that (enziosavio, Knurpht and Fraser_Bell).
It appears that a lot of good songs are covers. Like: Where Did You Sleep Last Night (Lead Belly and Nirvana), Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door (Bob Dylan and Guns’n’Roses), Sound of Silence (Simon and Garfunkel, Disturbed).
PS. Knurpht and Fraser_Bell - I “envy” you for your ability to play on a musical instrument. I have tried (when I was a child) and now I am sorry that I have not tried harder.

The list is long, and every moment of life has its music, country music in general, is the only one that I liked both when I was young and now that I was middle-aged … Elvis, John Denver, Johnny Cash I listen to them willingly
I also like music Andina gives me the sense of party and excites me an example <

exciting to listen to your eyes closed

Thanks for your answer.
Very nice.

This is an interpretation of a Romanian artist:

PS. I know how it is to be middle-aged. I think we are the same.

I’m a classical music kind of person. I was listening to the Archduke Trio (Beethoven) when I started reading this thread. It has finished playing, so I’m currently not listening to anything.

For me Beethoven was only Symphonies. Thanks for Archduke trio. Beautiful.
How did I get to listen Mozart - Le nozze di Figaro. Because of “The Shawshank Redemption”. And I believe I am not the only one.

I’m also a classical kind of person (I played the violin through school),
but also like electronica a lot. Jazz came a little later, along with
The Eagles and Queen, and more recently, blues (got a friend who plays
blues harmonica/guitar, and it’s always fun to go listen to him
perform.) I also have an affinity for good movie and video game music.

My wife and I hold season tickets to the Seattle Symphony - last night’s
concert was The Duke Ellington Orchestra - and that was amazing (we had
front-row seats, which I usually don’t want, but they were more or less
perfect for this one).

And this season ends with a viewing of Star Wars (the original) with live
music performed by the SSO. We were fortunate enough to have an earlier
concert this season conducted by John Williams, and Steven Spielberg put
in an appearance after the intermission. That was also a pretty
incredible concert.

Movies are a great introduction to classical music - Barber’s Adagio for
Strings (an incredible piece to both listen to and play - it’s incredibly
intense) was used in Platoon. And let’s not forget about the final
soundtrack for 2001: A Space Odyssey. Also Sprach Zarathustra, The Blue
Danube, and pieces by Ligetti and Katchaturian.

Though I have to say, the Alex North score for the film is equally
impressive, and it was a real shame that Kubrick did what he did to North
(changing the score out at the last minute - literally, North went to the
premiere expecting to hear his score, and was surprised to hear that it
had been removed from the film).

Even the soundtracks of Film Spaghetti Western are exciting

No, you are correct.

I was/am Country-based, but right from the beginning, as mentioned in the screenshot thread, mixed in with old Jazz (Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, et al) and Classical (My favourite Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony #9 “From The New World”, Strauss Waltzes, Rimsky-Korsakav’s Scheherezade, and of course Tchaikovsky), and my tastes have just continued to spread over the decades. Anything that is truly musical to my ears.

And, let me introduce you to Canada’s Sweetest Voice, Susie Arioli, here performing a beautiful rendition of Roger Miller’s “Husbands and Wives”. Note, also, the superb, tastefully understated guitar-work.

I like to think there are only 2 genres of music (bad music and good music). Lately I’ve been listening to the latest Paramore album (After Laughter) and Royal Blood (hope they will release something new soon).
All the piano Final Fantasy soundtracks are great (maybe because I played those games as a teenager and it brings back good memories :)). If you are into playing instruments or music history I can really recommend CDZA Instrumentals videos on youtube.

I did not hear about Susie Arioli until now. But now she is on my buying list. Thank you.
For me Rush was the best band form Canada that I know.
Anoushka Shankar, plays at sitar

I see that you have Norah Jones on your list of artists. According Wikipedia, Anoushka Shankar is the half sister of Norah Jones.

Yes, she is, Norah is illegitimate daughter of Ravi Shankar.

… and, see how they look so much alike.
