aarch64 image unstable

Hi!

I took the image from here

http://download.opensuse.org/ports/aarch64/distribution/leap/42.2/appliances/

…the usual “HDMI out of range” on first boot, so no display, but ssh works OOTB.

Set up tigervnc, all fine, as with TW images. Installed NTP, afterwards the system hangs and never comes back, but ssh is still available for reboot.

But if I make any changes in YaST with network (firewall, change from wicked to networkmanager) the networking dies and never comes back. so no way to reboot, only pull the plug… After changing firewall the system is back after reboot, but changing to networkmanager killed the system, IP is handed out from the router, but “no route to host” for ssh as well as vnc :frowning:

Sorry no log files, as display does not work (see above) and no way into the machine via network, the serial console only spits out this here:

Overall, LEAP 42.2 is not as stable to me as TW is on the same hardware.

…burned the same image download (btw. correct sha256 checksum) to the same SDcard and booted the same raspi 3, but edited config.txt on the efi partition by adding

hdmi_safe=1

to try to get rid of the “HDMI out of range” issue. HDMI still not available after efi stub loading, but this time the installation is much more stable and does not fail on changes to the firewall/NTP/network settings (although I’m currently not in the mood to swich from wicked to networkmanager, so I didn’t try this yet  ).

Much better now!:shame:

…some packages missing in LEAP 42.2 to surf my samba shares with Thunar… forgot which packages I had installed recently to make that work on TW(?). Hmmmm…

OK, the gvfs-…-smb package did the trick, now samba is available in Thunar.

  • During boot I get in console a lot of
i2c-bcm2835 3f805000.i2c: i2c transfer failed: 100
  • Installed Thunderbird, it crashed upon the first login to retrieve mail and cordumps the rest of the day. Even after a reboot the system does not start Thunderbird, but starts to coredump (DOM Worker)…

OK, fresh try with latest image

openSUSE-Leap42.2-ARM-XFCE-raspberrypi3.aarch64-2016.11.24-Build1.2.raw.xz

sha256 is checked, OK.

Boot, no HDMI, as usual, tigervnc installed, headless setup. First hang of system when configuring NTP (deleting all suse servers, adding my personal favorite), only a reboot from the serial console helps.

Starting Thunderbird, adding email account, as yesterday the application crashed upon loading emails from AOL server. Never comes back. Even after reboot Thunderbird cannot be started, simply doesn’t come up.

I will stick to TW…

btw. is it REALLY necessary to have allowed the following scripts simply to log in to this forum:

2x esp.microfocus.com
7x login.microfocus.com
1x buy.suse.com
32x (sic!) www.suse.com

not to talk about the images from google, secure.eloqua.com and an XHR from www.suse.com. It pains!:’(
