A wireless connectivity problem

Hi everyone.

First off I have read through the stickies about wireless connection issues but quickly became confused, what with being a complete numpty when it comes to computers. I hope this will be a simple problem and easily fixed. Sincere apologies for creating a new thread, as I know this is a cardinal sin from dealing with another forum I use, about cars. I am much better at understanding nuts and bolts than lines of code and set up menus!

Some background. I’m running Suse i586 and Windoze XP on a dual OS, the Windoze is present as a failsafe and because some of the software packages I need are specialised and not available in Opensource (really!) as far as I know.

I have had my home wireless network up and running with no issues since mid-December and for the last two days it has not been connecting. When I say this, I mean the signal strength indicator is at zero/weak, the status is reported as Not Connected and the icon in the taskbar is the green/opaque circle not the usual signal strength indicator.

I have not made any changes to the network settings at all.

I am confident that the network itself, the hardware and the network encryption key are fine, because Windoze is able to connect.

My question - if I go into YAST - network settings, what settings do I need to check and verify in order to be confident that I have got everything set up correctly?

Apologies for the daft question and the new thread. I hope someone can help!:shame:

Right well I’ve done the following:

Checked if Wireless LAN is listed in Yast-Hardware-Hardware info = Yes

Checked Kernel driver - ath5k

Checked PCI - says PCI bus, ID=6

UDI address = UDI:/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_168c_1a

I’m pretty much lost now.

I’ve reset the router - no difference

Grrrrr

Any ideas?

Did you read the stickies? If not Grrrrrr back.

Please post the output of the command ‘dmesg | grep ath’

Thanks for replying. Did you read my first post?

I will have another look after work today and post up the result, should I be successful.
