A question about syslog

HI!
Because I want to try to read the telnet relevant information for syslog purpose

Therefore vi / etc / syslog-ng / syslog-ng.conf as

source test {
file ("/ var / log / xinetd.log");
};
destination test {file ("/ var / log / test.log");};
log {source (test); destination (test);};

Should be expected to produce test.log has been not automatically generated, so would like to ask you experts, what do I have neglected it?

Thanks

Um… you have spaces in your path that are wrong. Why are they there?

Good luck.

And next time you post computer text do so between CODE text Posting in Code Tags - A Guide. It will make it even easier to sport white space n the wrong places.

Thank ! I already checked the /etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf

file ("/var/log/xinetd.log");
destination test  { file("/var/log/test.log"); };
log { source(test); destination(test); };

and they are no space ,but it still does not work.
What do I have neglected it?

You have not defined the source(test).

He did not even tell what language he is using. How can we parse then against a definition?

It is syslog-ng syntax.

Thanks for the info. That has a man page (but it is not installed on my system). I will leave this to those who understand it :wink:

I still have it installed, but not in use: the current suse choice is
rsyslog. I had a look at my previous configuration to see how it was done
and guess what he tries to do. That guessing part is incomplete.
