A KDE tablet is coming...

I just have seen this and i like to share this blogpost with you guys.
This looks really nice to me and for the price (if it stays) its
appealing for a relativity low cost tablet.

It was also featured in todays Ars so you may check there as well.

Great news indeed.

order it over the KDE webpage?

Yeah, I saw this and started drooling.

I’ve been wanting a tablet, but hesitate not only on the cost factor, but also that I would prefer an open source version. I don’t know how well Android integrates with Linux, but a Linux-based tablet would be awesome!

Plus this price point is within range. Spending $4-500 is a bit much for me at this point.

Any information on what is running under the KDE Plasma? It looks like currently a custom-rolled kernel but wondered whether they would continue, or pick a distribution to run underneath (or a base distribution to heavily modify).

In the KDE space, openSUSE may have a chance.

Not sure if that is even known at this point, but will it be possible to
use non free repositories? Like to watch movies etc…

Alright, I looked at the Ars Technica article where they state

Underneath the shiny KDE surface, the Spark reportedly runs Mer, a community-driven fork of the Linux-based MeeGo platform.

Now I wish they would post an availability date (or year)! This could be a nice alternative to the iOS&Android interface or the Windows Metro design.

Taking pre-orders now!

€200 KDE Tablet to Ship May; Pre-Orders Open Next Week](http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/02/e200-kde-tablet-to-ship-may-pre-orders-open-next-week/)

It looks decent. Recently I received an ipad as a gift but I had to return it both for philosophical reasons as well as the fact that it felt crippled to me. This on the other hand might be something I can more appreciate.

Wishing I wasn’t going to be broke into the foreseeable future or I’d pre order one right this second.
