A good bittorrent client

I’m looking for some good bittorrent client, any ideas based on users experience?
I start using deluge but looking for something that looks and works like Ares (Windows).

Thanks in advance.

I use Vuze (Azureus) mostly
But also Ktorrent

Of course there are plenty to choose from. Transmission is another.

It’s personal choice.

I use to use transmission (on my ibook) and it works well. It’s small and simple. Vuse is good but I felt like it had too many options. Again, it’s personal choice.

  • castord,

if you got a webserver running anyways, check torrentflux

Uwe

i use Deluge Torrent

Deluge is a full-featured BitTorrent client for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. It uses libtorrent in it's backend and PyGTK for it's user interface.

Deluge features a rich plugin collection; in fact, most of Deluge's functionality is available in the form of plugins.

Deluge was created with the intention of being lightweight and unobtrusive. It is our belief that downloading shouldn't be the primary task on your computer and therefore shouldn’t monopolize system resources.

Deluge is not designed for any one desktop environment and will work just fine in GNOME, KDE, XFCE and others.

Deluge is Free Software and is licensed under the GNU General Public License.

Deluge has a wide-array of features, including:

* Web UI
* BitTorrent Protocol Encryption
* Mainline DHT
* Local Peer Discovery (aka LSD)
* FAST protocol extension
* µTorrent Peer Exchange
* UPnP and NAT-PMP
* Proxy support
* Web seed
* Private Torrents
* Global and per-torrent speed limits
* Configurable bandwidth scheduler
* Password protection
* RSS
* And much more!

:slight_smile:

Thanks to all of you for the quick answer.
I’ll start reading about your suggestions.

I used to use Vuze back when it was still Azureus. It always got me good speeds but I just hated the startup time (I didn’t have a powerful computer to load Java at a acceptable speed). I switched to KTorrent recently, but although it starts up fast it never gets nice download speeds when you’re connected to more peers than seeds, which is almost always the case.

The best compromise I found was to use uTorrent under wine in Linux. Starts up fast and downloads fast as well.

Cheers.

I rarely use torrent, but ktorrent has always
worked well if you are a KDE desktop.

In case you’re using the gnome desktop:

  • transmission (excellent)
  • frostwire (java based, very good)
