A coupel kmail questions

Hello Everyone,

I just installed openSUSE this morning. Haven’t used SUSE since the 90’s. I have to say I love it, I can’t believe how well it runs. But to my questions.

I have set up 3 imap accounts in Kmail. Only two show up. If I goto account settings I see all three, but the inbox doesn’t show up in Kmail.

Next, I can’t delete emails. Move to trash is grayed out in the options when I right click. And pressing del key doesn’t work either. Though I can delete the ones in the trash can.

Please check that all 3 are configured correctly in the Account Settings (on the “Receive” tab).
Maybe something went wrong with setting the one up.

Are all of them marked as “Online”?

You could also try to remove the one that doesn’t show and set it up again.

Next, I can’t delete emails. Move to trash is grayed out in the options when I right click. And pressing del key doesn’t work either. Though I can delete the ones in the trash can.

Try to select a Trash folder for each of them (Account settings->Edit->Advanced)
Maybe a non-existing folder has been selected for some reason.

Ok, got the account to show up…had to do with making sure all folders were checked in server side subscriptions.

Still working on trash issue. Though, the new account I just got to show up has trash working…gonna just have to cross reference all the settings.

Just a thought, as I prefer to disable server side subscriptions I’m not sure about that, but have you actually subscribed the selected trash folder for the accounts where it doesn’t work?

I finally got them all working right. It took a couple of add and removes…must be a glitch of some sort.

I got into that add/remove circus after doing an update 12.3 -> 13.1. I
suspect that the transition to new device naming protocols from the old
eth0/wlan0 standards were the root problem but I’m too lazy to try proving
the hypothesis as things are working right now.

Well, KMail/Akonadi don’t know anything about network interface names, and don’t care about that at all. Why should they?

Btw, you can rename your interfaces to whatever you like in YaST->Network Devices->Network Settings. They won’t ever be changed by an upgrade again then. (this gets saved in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules)
My interfaces are still named eth0 and wlan0 in 13.1 without me having to do anything special when upgrading. :wink:

I learned that the hard way :wink: Then tried some other combos with different
install scenarios. That actually turns out to be the most trouble-free
route unless you are doing a clean install, including clean a clean /home.
It should be transparent, but…
