I think the merge is great, but I don’t like
the fact that my account in the web interface
shows as ‘Guest’. I was one of the first users
of the SuSE forums under Novell and I’m reduced
to status of ‘Guest’…I feel special.

All of us who post via nntp are Guest… the
price we pay for posting as the good Lord intended.

Well basically you have to register your online alias
with Novell so that your newsreader account matches what
is in v-bulletin which Sounds like is hooked in with Novell’s
directory. Since I already have a Novell account,
but I don’t want to use that ID for posting sounds like,
as I read it, I’d have to register a new account so I don’t
appear as guest.

nntp addy’s are harvetable of course… so most of us
post with a shrouded id.

Yes. So register your shrouded ID and it should work…
This is what I am trying, but although the post appears to me
in NNTP, I can’t see it at all in the web interface. Do you
see my Test thread?

Ah. It just appeared. I notice the timestamps are whacked?
Says it’s 4:12 pm. Must be GMT.
Looks like that is the workaround. Create a new account at forums.opensuse.org with your current alias you’ve been using on the
former Novell forum. Seems to be working for me anyway.

One more thing, the Web registration is picky about what characters can
be in your userid. So notice I’ve gone from G of Borg to GofBorg.
G of Borg <G@collectiveab1.com> expounded:

I thought I did that once, which is why the link in my .sig works. I should go do
that again.

I ended up here with my old novell account and hence now will ne known as “vicharb”. Before I was on other forums as E@zyVG. I wish I could have had the same here, but sadly this forum engine doesn’t allow changing shown “shown username”.
