9800GX2 and NVClock

Hello

I installed NVClock and when to use it to adjust my fan speed. Doing so left me with this:

king@linux-jkzv:~/nvclock0.8b> nvclock -F 100
It seems your card isn’t officialy supported in NVClock yet.
The reason can be that your card is too new.
If you want to try it anyhow [DANGEROUS], use the option -f to force the setting(s).
NVClock will then assume your card is a ‘normal’, it might be dangerous on other cards.
Also please email the author the pci_id of the card for further investigation.
[Get that value using the -i option].

Is this that dangerous? Can I do it anyway?

Thanks.

It says ‘Dangerous’ so maybe it is. I don’t know.

My fan speed seems to switch up and down in speed just fine, setting the quiet option in BIOS and using the setting Dynamic in kpowersave cpu frequ

Very true about the dangerousness. But this card does not seem to auto throttle. It has gotten up to almost 75c. Still does not seem to want to turn the fan up…

Thanks.

I don’t even have a fan any more, I removed it. Just a whackin’ great heatsink.

Check your BIOS settings

I thought about doing that with my old ATI card. I think the fan was half the weight of the computer. Actually, I installed NVClock-gtk and although it doesn’t know what card it is, it can somehow control fan speed.

I now have a card running at 49c instead of 75c.

Thanks for the help.
