Currently I am running an Asus k8v se deluxe with an amd 64 3200+ 754 chip set, 2x512 ddr400 ram, and a nvidia agp 8x video card. I had major issues getting any Linux distro to install and even then they would crash shortly after. I finally got ubuntu with kde installed on top to run somewhat ok but it is still not very stable at all.
It sounds like, from advice in the post I was working on this issue with and advice from some Linux guys at my work, the problem is the via K8T800 chip set. It sounds like Via chip sets are not really compatible. I don’t mind spending the $ to buy a new mobo if it will allow me to run openSuse 11, preferably, or even another current kde distro with some stability. i still mostly a Linux nub so I cant do a whole lot with building kernels and crazy stuff like that to try and get it running. :shame: I hope to get to that point by getting this set up.
The question: Does anyone know or preferably currently running a mobo with openSuse 11 that will house my current vid card (agp 8x), amd 64 3200+ cpu (socket 754), and maybe RAM (I would like 2 gigs so I may have to replace it anyway so this is less important)? I have found a few boards using the nforce3 and nforce4 chip sets. Would either of these chip sets be stable and is either one better?
Thanks for the advice in advance!
