64bit Applications on wine

Someone else had the same issue - fairly recent Thread:

64-bit Wine identifies itself as 32-bit

I installed wine-wow64 and it replaced wine-32bit but after trying to run a 64-bit app I get wine: '/home/x/.wine' is a 32-bit installation, it cannot support 64-bit applications.
