Linux 6.10.2 won’t start the WM on my machine, an had to boot back on 6.9.9.1.
@argentwolf Hi, you need to look at the journal. Are you running the likes of the Nvidia driver? What desktop environment, running Xorg or Wayland?
Yes, Nvidia driver, x11, Plasma, Tumbleweed…
@argentwolf then it’s likely the nvidia driver did not rebuild for the new kernel… So what driver are you using G06?
NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 [Discrete]
@argentwolf so when you did the zypper dup
did you check the output to see if the G04 driver rebuild showed errors? You could try forcing the re-install of the G04 nvidia kmp and see if it rebuilds…
This time I used Discover and it didn’t show any errors…
@argentwolf please run a zypper dup
then…
how can I force the re-install of the G04?
Says Nothing to do…
@argentwolf zypper in -f nvidia-gfxG04-kmp-default
should work
Does the same…
@argentwolf do you see output of the rebuild going on during install? If so, I’m guessing this is on the old kernel or booting to the new?
From the tty of the new…
@argentwolf and did you see lot’s of output, no errors?
Might have to re-install all from the tty, can you show the output from zypper se -i nvidia
to not guess at the coffee grounds /var/log/Xorg.0.log can give some hints
@yvs I suspect just the fact it can’t load the nvidia driver, since it may not be rebuilding for the 6.10.2 kernel, likely needs some patches applied…
@malcolmlewis there wasn’t info on unloaded nvidia driver, to not guess it is or not I’d start from Xorg log
@yvs moving to a new kernel series with old Nvidia drivers and no 6.10 patches included yet… system boots fine with old kernel leads a kmp rebuild was unsuccessful. I see there are some 6.10 patches out in the wild for @argentwolf’s G04 driver, they will get integrated soon one would hope…
@argentwolf is this a Desktop or Laptop, if it’s a desktop, might be time to look at an upgrade? Out of interest, what GPU is installed?
