550 error on sendmail. Cant set outgoing mail address.

Been trying to solve this for a week now. Upgraded opensuse 13.1 -> 13.2 and looks like everything need needs to be reconfigured. Most I got solved. Now this sendmail giving me headache. Trying to figure out these system services one by one.

Problem is that its giving as sender wwwrun@KiD2.KiD2 or wwwrun@localhost.KiD2 and it results in error as not a valid resolvable email/domain. How could I fix that? It seems to send copy ok to my local mailbox (on same pc).

(my old hotmail maybe not valid anymore, but getting same 550 error to all email addresses, as of the sender)

Too bad it only sends to my local mailbox…and not where supposed to go

So, the system tells you that KiD2.KiD2 is not a valid domain and you think that, contrary to the system, KiD2.KiD2 and localhost.KiD2 are valid domain names?

I doubt they are, but when you think they are, please prove so, e.g. by

host KiD2.KiD2

PC name is KiD2.

cat /etc/hosts

IP-Address Full-Qualified-Hostname Short-Hostname

127.0.0.1 localhost loopback

special IPv6 addresses

::1 localhost ipv6-localhost ipv6-loopback
10.0.0.9 KiD KiD
10.0.0.6 KiD2 KiD2
10.0.0.10 KiD2 KiD2

And also localhost prolly cant be solved to a ip via internet

  1. Forums technical advice: Can you please use CODE tags around copied/pasted computer text in a post. It is the # button in the tool bar of the post editor. When applicable copy/paste complete, that is including the prompt, the command, the output and the next prompt.
  2. This is not what I asked you to post.
  3. The comment at the top of /etc/hosts tells you that the second column should have the Full-Qualified-Hostname. Instaed you have the shortened name (same as in the third column).
  4. You have two entries with the same hostnames, is that intentional?
  5. You use upper and lower case in hostnames; host/domainnames are case insensitive and normally only used in lower case.

Sorry about that

 tag. Didnt think.

Also that hosts file was set up as is by yast when setup computer name. Been like that for years (since 1996 if recall right). I did change the other KiD2 into a 'real' domain in this computer. Now a working domain but mails are still sent to local email box. No error though.

-----

Now I think how I done it past years. I most likely somehow routed the KiD2 as sending address to a working www.workingdomain.com to be as From: in the email. Just need to figure out how I did it. Maybe not the correct/best way to do it though :) So skipped that and did it now how supposed to be done.

Now works. Tnx. You pointed me to direction where to look for.

You are welcome. It often indeed needs only a little discussion with someone to get the solution process going again.

Really upgraded, or installed new release in the same partitions? There is a big different.

The error is:

As I read it, you are sending an email to a server in internet (posti.saunalahti.fi) with an address (…@KiD2.KiD2) that is not known in internet: it is a local name only known in your computer.
