4G IPOD Shuffle

My wife got a Pink Gen 3 IPOD shuffle (4G) model# A1271 from her school.
Now I am trying to get it to be recognized on my system.

I have loaded gkpod, and have had no luck with this. The model number isnt found.

Amark doesnt show a 4G Gen 3. And only black an silver 4G Gen 4’s.

Whats the deal between a 4G Gen 4 black & a 4G Gen 4 Silver? Why does the software care about the different model number based on color?

Any suggestions?

It would be useful to provide some context info. What openSUSE version; KDE/Gnome; Amarok and gtkpod versions? Without it, your question makes me think of Amarok 1.4.x.
