[42.1] Rhythmbox not playing anything

Hi @ all,

I’ve been trying to get rhythmbox to work on openSuse 42.1 Mate with packman multimedia libs.
Any other player plays mp3s and flacs just fine (e.g. vlc, MPlayer, Audacious) but Rhythmbox and Banshee (I do not care for the latter).
I installed gstreamer-0_1 and gstreamer (1.0) from packman, did all the vendor changes and added myself to audio group.
Well and the corresponding gstreamer bad, ugly, good plugins of course. Same as ffmpeg, lame and all the stuff the one-click installer allows (I redid everything in a fresh VM with the one-click installer to verify it’s not some strange problem due to already installed packages).
Anyway, if I want to open a mp3 / flac file with rhythmbox, it is not added and it says:

I have no idea anymore what I can do to solve this problem. There is no player for me like Rhythmbox…
Can somebody help me out here? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Martin

You’re not the only one:
https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/511323-Gstreamer-error

The only advice I can give at the moment is to do a full switch to Packman (even if you already did it once), then delete the gstreamer cache. The cache is located in ~/.cache/.gstreamer-1.0/, just delete the whole folder.

And check that you have gstreamer-fluendo-mp3 installed for mp3 playback.

Other packages you might need (which will not be installed automatically): gstreamer-plugins-bad-orig-addon, gstreamer-plugins-ugly-orig-addon, gstreamer-plugins-libav.

Although at least your output doesn’t mention a missing codec.

OTOH, I have no idea whether rhythmbox is even in a working condition in Leap at the moment…

Banshee still uses gstreamer-0_10, so you’d need different plugins there:
gstreamer-0_10-fluendo-mp3, gstreamer-0_10-plugins-bad-orig-addon, gstreamer-0_10-plugins-ugly-orig-addon, gstreamer-0_10-plugins-ffmpeg

And also here it might be necessary to delete the plugin cache, it’s in ~/.gstreamer-0.10/ in this case.

Thanks a lot wolfi323
Seems Rhythmbox is not compatible with Leap yet… I was already wondering if I was stupid or something, as it was working with 13.2.
Oh well, Banshee is working fine now though. Seems I have to stick around with that one for the moment. Thanks again for the tipps.

Seems the thread can be closed again then.

Yesterday, I was forced to reinstall my system.
I installed the codecs from packman repo, did a vendor change and installed rhythmbox afterwards. Works like a charm - so rhythmbox is now in working condition in Leap
Hope nobody spanks me for replying to an old thread :stuck_out_tongue: but I really hate unsolved ones.
