been lots of problems with the log in system, for a long while
now…and, they ARE working on it…
sometimes if you delete all cookies with novell.com, suse.com,
opensuse.org, then shutdown and restart your browser (and stand on your
head etc etc) it will let you log in…
otherwise sometimes just wait a while and try again…while waiting
you can read without signing in (maybe you find the answer you were
looking for) and if you don’t want to wait for the log in to work again
you can always post using nntp, like i am…
info on nntp here:

Not had any problems until the last few days; after I log in to openSUSE I get directed to the Novell login. If I leave that and open a second browser, I either find I am already logged in or the login process succeeds. I then close the first browser at the end. So far so good.

That’s a new one on me, can you provide a step-by-step outline of what
you enter/click on to reproduce this issue?

After logging in to the openSUSE page in Konqueror, I am directed to
https://login.novell.com/nidp/app/login?id=5&sid=0&option=credential&sid=0
I have never tried to go any further than this; just opened another browser and got in the second try.

Either the login page at suse.com or novell.com will work fine.
But when you say “the openSUSE page”, what URL specifically do you mean?

Ocassionally I get in first time, but more often have to press Stop and/or Reload on browser, and then either succeed and get into forum, or back to a blank-field novell login and try again (usually successful).
Also when in forum, often get “waiting for opensuse.org” status msg. Pressing reload often gets an immediate response. So basically having to interact twice.

That’s a known issue, and that should be resolved soon (hopefully within
a couple of weeks, waiting on some additional new hardware that’s been
ordered).

Thanks, good to hear that.
Although the novell login hiccup feels the same (symptom wise), it’s more hassle to get around. Could it similarly be waiting on a forum response? Hopefully that will go away at the same time…
since yesterday in chromium when logging in (enter credentials and hit login) I get a white page for a period of time (approx 1 min I guess) and then a very simple message “page not found”
Clearing history and cache doesn’t help.
Login works fine in firefox.

It’s not that its waiting on a forum response (well, I guess that’s what
the browser is waiting on), but there seems to be a packet loss issue
that appears to be caused by an older piece of equipment that’s slated to
be replaced.

Jim, I think you spotted it. I did mean that the novell login/front end is waiting on a forum response. So no to that, but your further explanation is enough for me, thank you. Keep the replacements coming.
I haven’t tried with chromium yet, but ever since they reorganized the forum to make language selection easier I’ve seen this/ except I get the “page not found” in just a couple of seconds…
Clearing history and cache doesn’t help.
didn’t help me either.
Login works fine in firefox.
I’m seeing this with both Opera and Firefox.
I have however noticed a quick kludge that gets me logged in every time.
Here’s how I logged in a few minutes ago with Firefox,
step one I opened a new instance of firefox. Then used a bookmark to get to:
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/
Then I clicked on the “Register|Login” link, which brought me to:
https://login.novell.com/nidp/idff/sso?id=6&sid=0&option=credential&sid=0
Where I logged in. But then I was redirected to:
http://forums.opensuse.org/login/icslogin.php?destination=/opensuseforums/forumdisplay.php?f=842
Where I got the page not found found error… At this point I use a bookmark to go back to:
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/
Where I’m recognized as being logged in.
So far this has worked for me every time…
This one is a problem in the login link, and there are a couple of possible fixes. The problem has always been there, but it looks like with the latest changes to the home page, etc. it is now much easier to run into it. I believe Kim has talked to the guys who work on the theming and they should be working on it.
The replacements are installed and configured. Right now, we are just testing and working on the IPv6 solution.
If you would like to help test, please see [opensuse-web] New ADC in Provo](http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-web/2012-10/msg00014.html). I have instructions on how to test, and some of the fixes/features we are expecting. I would love some feedback on the TCP connection issue especially.
If testing goes well and all the stars align, I would like to switch over to these by the end of the week. If not, then next week will be my next target.
Additionally to that, for the first time in ages, I had the message “page not found” on a white page, using Firefox, right after completing login screen. The only problem experienced since the new forum release so far has been a continuation of the double interaction discussed above, but mainly during forum usage. However, maybe not significant, but I had logged into KDE on my regular (11.4) system with a brand new userid (my regular userid failed to complete DE startup earlier today - corrupted KDE setting possibly as it works ok with iceWM).
Ok will take a look at that, and will have go using 12.2 on my testing partion. As per previous post here, I have to recover my regular 11.4 system. However before today’s problem with my own system, yesterday’s impression was that forum logins were quicker and mostly trouble-free.
Hey MatthewEhle,

Jarid is looking at it.

Testing as per instructions now. How do you want feedback, in this thread?
That’s a good question, since we’re a little off topic on this thread. Since there are others on the thread who are just as interested in this issue, I’m sure it would be fine to put your feedback here. Otherwise, feel free to simply PM me.
Thanks!
