3G in 11.1

Im running suse11.1 with kde4.2.

i live in california and my power goes out for no reason quite often it seems and the other day it did and I still had cell phone service so i was gonna tether my phone into my computer for internet use like i had done many times before in ubuntu8.10.

It didnt work and it seems that suse recognizes my phone as a modem and not a wireless internet connection like ubuntu did. This leaves me to beleive that suse has no 3g support at this time which is fine.

My question is, when does suse plan on having 3G support if at all or is there a way to add it to suse to work like it does in ubuntu. I know that in Linux the sky is the limit and maybe someone out there has made a install script for such things or have come up with a tutorial on how to do it.

Many people may say just go back to ubuntu but quite frankly opensuse11.1 is wayyyyyyyyy more stable than the cutting edge ubuntu.

Thank you all for any responses to this thread, its much appreciated.

OpenSUSE Runs HSDPA (is that 3G? I think so – not sure): Wireless HSDPA broadband in Suse/openSUSE Using Nokia 6120 Mobile Phone as Modem on Three Mobile Australia

OpenSUSE also runs 3G on a dongle supplied by my ISP (different from the broadband phone above): Wireless broadband in Suse/openSUSE for Bigpond Next G Network (HSDPA-enabled bp3-usb)

Thank you so much. that worked and it was easy. And wow…it only took one answer to my post. I sir, am impressed.

BTW for everyone to know I am on ATT Wireless w/unlimited data plan. LG VU cell phone connected via a usb cable into my computer on opensuse11.1 kde4.2 in southern california. running over 500kbps through my cell phone.

Just part of the standard service package
