Hi,
Installation on a Compaq N600C Evo laptop (1ghz Pentium 3/512mb RAM)
After logging into KDE there were some visual artifacts (black horizontal lines about an inch long on the left of the screen)
On opening an application, the system appeared sluggish.
Open another one and it appears screens are being drawn very slowly and eventually freeze.
More windows = worse performance, and it only takes 2 or 3 to make the system unusable.
System activity shows Xorg running nearly 60% CPU.
Turn off 3d acceleration and everything works ok (except 3d effects, obviously) and Xorg uses less than 5% CPU.
Graphics card is identified as Radeon LY using Radeon driver.
Exactly the same problem occurred when I upgraded my desktop (AMD Athlon XP1800+/512mb RAM).
The graphics card on this shows as Radeon QD using RadeonHD driver.
3d worked ok on OpenSuse 11.1/KDE4.3 before the upgrade.
It’s not the end of the world having no 3D, but it would be nice if it worked.
Any ideas?
Alex
