32-bit upgrade to 64-bit. is it worth it?

I’m looking to squeeze a bit more performance out of my machine. Has anyone upgraded their 32-bit system to 64-bit, and would you recommend it? Will I see any noticeable performance gains? This is my work computer, so if it will require days of debugging and fixing things, it’s not worth it to me. Any advice is appreciated.

I run _64 on my main box but I can’t say it performs noticeably better than when using 32. If you have 4GB RAM + then you would be better. If you perform lots of High end cpu tasks - you may also see the benefits of _64
Otherwise it tends to prove more of an inconvenience to many inexperienced users.

As caf4926 already noted, if you are running happily with the 32bit version and your system does not have more than 3~4 GB of RAM, the difference is really minimal. To get the most optimal experience, the applications you generally use also need to be 64 bit.
It would be more worthwhile when you also consider a move up (upgrading to a newer version). If that’s the case, I’d recommend to hang on another month so you can upgrade to 11.1.

Do you have enough space left on your drive to dual boot? So you can test/build your new version while keeping the working state working.

Cheers,
Wj

Highly unlikely that you’ll see much change. And, in some cases,
it might make things a bit slower (depends). But in general,
no change (negligible).

64bit works REALLY well nowadays. But there are still a few
gotchas relating to software that isn’t quite 64bit ready yet.

if you’re encoding stuff a lot (audio/video) then you’ll see a performance boost of up to 15%
For the rest, it’s just like 32 bit
