32 bit os: two niggles with latest updates

hi,

just for info

  1. white flashes occur across the sddm login screen.
the screen is stable after the password has been entered

  2. sometimes the login screen does not transit to the kde desktop.
the desktop comes up, after waiting for hdd access to stop,
    by pressing ctl-alt-F9, ctl-alt-F8, ctl-alt-F7

any info/comments appreciated

cheers

no change after updates too,

Hi
Maybe a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-radeon.conf file with options added may help eg TearFree, set the acceleration method?

Because I have been suffering from that problem too, I gave it a try and this seems to work for me:

Section "Device"
        Identifier "Radeon"
        Driver "radeon"
        Option "EXAVSync" "on"
        Option "TearFree" "on"
EndSection

hi Malcolm, Hendrik

thx for the info

both niggles appear to be cleared by the new file,

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-radeon.conf

cheers

hi Malcolm, Hendrik

observation

with the new file, /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-radeon.conf installed,
libreofice became unusable: menu bar was corrupted and pull-down menus empty

when the above mentioned file was deleted the functionality of libreoffice returned to normal

with the latest updates, Kernel: 4.13.6-1-default i686, KDE Plasma 5.11.0 and
openSUSE Tumbleweed 20171019, booting to the kde gui is no longer a problem

as long as libreoffice is functional, tearing on the sddm login screen can be lived with

cheers

Hi
If you remove the Option “EXAVSync” “on” and just have tearfree?

Interesting. I have no problems with Libre Office and the Xorg conf file.

hi Malcolm,

when the line Option “EXAVSync” “on” is disabled,

  • the tearing in sddm login is gone
    and
  • sddm login transits to kde gui
    and
  • libreoffice menu bar and pull-down selections work as normal

cheers
