I have to Ctrl+Alt+F1, log in as root, init 3 (which hangs), Ctrl+C, init 5, exit. Then the gui login screen works. 20180726 didn’t have this issue.
Try to capture some output and report a bug. I’m seeing error messages passing by, currently back to the previous kernel.
