20,000 Members

Today we reached a milestone. Member number 20,000 registered at 20:37 UTC today. We’ve come a long way since June.

<:)

I just put on my special party tu-tu… Too bad I don’t have the grand editing skills Swerdna has! (or in this case ‘thank god!’) :stuck_out_tongue:

Congrats to all forum admins/mods & members!

Is it true that the 20,000th member gets as a prize 20,000 free downloads of openSUSE from the servers :stuck_out_tongue:

I miss these forums, but, i put an ebook online for free a few weeks back and since am getting flooded with messages, and i stupidly reply to each one, LOL

Hehe “Congratulations, you’re member #20.000! You are hereby granted a free copy of openSUSE which you can download at no charge from http://software.opensuse.org/” ?

What else could anyone possibly want? That’s the grand prize, the 1st place prize, and the prize for the 19,998 runner ups.

woo hoo. lol!

Whew! Not bad, 20,000 in six months. Well,40,000 in another six months if the trend is consistent.

Woo, yeah, and other general sounds of excitement.

Actually that’s a rather good increment.

Come on you 20,000 you can contribute - it will make the world a better place.

Should ask why so few.

+1

As everyone knows openSUSE is one of the top 3 distros popularity wise.

But why is that Ubuntu Forums gets ~1000 new members per day where as this forum gets only like 80-100?

No distro war intended, just curious to know

We have less issues? <:)

Nah… guess it’s evident they have a much bigger userbase.

Next to a bigger userbase it could also be there are more forums for openSUSE where Ubuntu has this setup more centrally?

How many of those accounts could be created by bots/spammers? Haven’t been in the Ubuntu forums much lately to answer that…

I must say their active member count is impressive and the keep a well organised forum.

Fedora has a big forum too, just not quite as large as Ubuntu. It’s bigger than this forum, however. I’ve never used Fedora so I can’t comment on it but I have used Ubuntu in the past and I post on their forum from time to time. I prefer to run openSuse, however.

To me, openSuse just doesn’t have the issues I’ve had with other distros. Maybe I am just lucky.

Maybe OpenSuse just works better so there is not as much need
lol!just kiddinglol!

I think part of it is that openSUSE is a balanced distro (very zen-like).

If you want servers, the distro choices generally come out

  1. Red Hat/CentOS
  2. openSUSE
  3. Ubuntu

If you want desktop it comes out

  1. Ubuntu
  2. openSUSE
  3. Fedora

Extremes get better acknowledgment than the well balanced “bard” or “jack of all trades, master of none.”

Of course Ubunut is aiming at the server market while Fedora is aiming for the desktop! Either one of these moves needs to displace openSUSE, which should not be easy.

Of course, one problem at this forum is that all you guys are just so nice and helpful. That is just not the way to grow a community. :stuck_out_tongue: lol!

Congrats to everyone at openSuse forums.

20 000 thousand more to go!!

Do you not mean SLES instead of openSuse in the server section ?

Pedant mode off.

Yup. That would be more appropriate.

It’s already near 21.000, give it some time and we can expect a much more attractive number soon

most people join forums for help, a higher membership base, most likely points to a distro that isn’t user friendly and needs a higher level of community support
