2 monitors on X-server can't login afer black-out

I have 2-monitors on a nvidia geforce 8600.
I had configured my system(an old quad intel-gigabyte) to boot from screen number 2 and make login to screen n. 1(that means 2 screens non identical, but one right and the other left)configuration made by nvidia-Xserver application with the root account.
After a small black-out i lost my settings and i can not make visible the login screen.

I tried to make login like root(in the dark) and to go in init 1,in the older versions of suse boot screen you could use parameters at boot time(p.e. init 1,3,e.t.c.),NOW?

My 2 screens work fine(test them on windows server2008 and suseDVD).
But i am not sure about my graphic card and my motherboard, the last after hard-reseting the CMOS it boots again in the second screen, like always.

openSUSE 13.1x64 KDE

Any ideas?
Thank you

If i boot from the installation dvd in rescue mode can somebody tell me how i can reach my system and perhaps delete the X-sever config file, or maybe enable a back-up config. file at the
etc directory.
I don’t remember the steps after i login like root at the rescue system(mounts, chroot, how to save and so on).

Please feel free if you have any other suggestions

You can get to different init levels by pressing E when you are presented with the boot loader and adding it to the end of the “linux” line, then pressing F10 to boot with the new parameter.

(Took a quick snap from VMware so it looks a bit odd  )

Thanks it worked just fine.
Now at the /etc where i can find the “x-cofig”(or what it name is)?
I am using mc, can i edit it and how?

Well,i find it in /etc/X11/ i back it up and rename conf. the back up file.
But the old conf. file was made when the motherboard was still booting from screen 1(few months ago),I will make some corrections.
Thank you very much.
lol!lol!

Still can’t login.
I made it just once,i reconfigured with nvidia Xserver settings (like root)on KDE and i lost it on the next reboot.
Since i tried like this a few times i am not remembering any more where i moved the original xorg.conf file.

Last i tried from init 1 to make nvidia-xconf(:nothing) and
startx : the KDE dyes.

You shouldn’t try to run startx from “init 1”. Most services are not running at that point.
Rather use “init 5” to get to the graphical session.

Have you tried to rename /etc/X11/xorg.conf?
Does recovery mode work? (“Advanced Options” in the boot menu)

Have you tried a new user?
If that works, deleting ~/.kde4/share/apps/kscreen/ might help, as it contains the user’s screen configuration.

The Xorg.0.log would help to find out what’s wrong properly.
Do a normal boot, then reboot to recovery mode, then post /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old (which is the log file from the previous boot) for further advise.

Hi,
I remember the old SuSE had a x configuration menu in the YaST (XaST or like that),I will try what it’s possible from the things you told.

On recovery mode i have to choose from 2 kernel versions(i am choosing the newest),
In the login screen (low resolution) i enter like root on kde and nvidia-xserver settings ask to close x and make nvidia-xserver ,when i do it i can login and i have 2-screens.
On the next normal boot i have 1 screen and its not the login one.
Sorry, for now i can’t be more accurate to the output, i will recheck and make you know.

i can login only in recovery mode,in normal mode i have only one screen and it’s not the login screen. In recovery i can login like any user, but the problem is that in normal mode i can’t see the login screen, for technical reasons i can’t change the hardware inputs of my monitors.

Please, you can specify a part of the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old because it’s too long:O and for that not accepted to be post at the forum.

You mean SaX? That’s been dropped years ago…

But the nvidia driver should be used by default if it is installed.

In the login screen (low resolution) i enter like root on kde and nvidia-xserver settings ask to close x and make nvidia-xserver ,when i do it i can login and i have 2-screens.

I doubt that you ran “nvidia-xserver”…

If you ran “nvidia-xconfig”, that created a new xorg.conf.
So your system does boot using the nvidia driver now?

That should not have been necessary then. But the nvidia driver packages have a problem at the moment in that they do not work on the first boot after installation. A mere reboot should help.
This should be fixed with the next driver update.

On the next normal boot i have 1 screen and its not the login one.

What is it then?

Please, you can specify a part of the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old because it’s too long:O and for that not accepted to be post at the forum.

Upload it to a sharing/pasting site like http://susepaste.org and post a link.

**
First of all i fixed it,so thank you wolfi

The problem was that the one screen(the login one) it was black(init 3 and 5),the other one had the suse logo. The system was working(reboot and so on),but if i was trying a different shell / f1.f2,… the working monitor had no use :no blinking cursor.

From the command nvidia-xconfig i had the output “no xorg driver”,or something like that, the new .config file didn’t work so i deleted the new .config file and restore an old one.I don’t remember if i delete it first or after reboot.

Anyway, i logged in on restore mode remake the configurations using nvidia application and after rebooting everything is working fine.

thanks to all and to wolfi
Good morning

Hi,it’s me again

I upload Xorg.0.log.old file to the site that you told me with the same tittle
if and when you find the time take a look.

The only problem now is the very long booting time,<2-3 times from before, but i thing X-server is not the problem anymore
winServer2008 is booting in normal times and GPU temperature is now normal.

In times of crisis the small black-outs are frequent, the computer old,…

And where’s the link?
But I don’t see a point in looking at it now anyway, if X/the nvidia driver works.

Use “systemd-analyze blame” to find out what’s taking so long.

And/or press ESC to quit the splash screen during boot and have look whether it is hanging maybe somewhere.

Sorry,here is the ling http://susepaste.org/54102035 (i think),i don’t see the point either.

Pressing ESC ,i can’t find anything different from before.
With the command “systemd-analyze blame” needs 30s for NFS mounting, perhaps it’s the change of direction of the NFS server(LAN) after the black-out.
I will recheck on the next reboot.

Thanks

Well, I did have a quick look anyway, and all looks fine.
The nvidia driver is loaded/used, and it detects two monitors.
