2.5 sata usb enclosures

Will any basic one work? I have a 2.5 sata drive from my laptop with all kinds of stuff I need to access.

All you need is a suitable interface cable
sata to usb would be ideal I guess

as for the enclosure, use wooden box if you want

I connected the SATA disk from my ( now defunct due to fat fingers and
soldering iron but that is another story ) laptop directly internally to a
SATA port on my machine and it works fine,

There’s a limit to the power you can draw from an USB port (500mA IIRC), so if your HD requires more than that you may want a box with independent power supply. Not as cool as one of those streamlined, chock-resistant 2.5-inch drive boxes, however.

P.S.: I do recall seeing an add for one with two USB connectors, one for data and power, the other only for power (should be connected to a different header if possible).

As long as you NEVER connect/disconnect it while the computer is on. The huge USB advantage is hotplugging.
