2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64

I heard that this means i can run opensuse 64 bit but is it really beneficial to me? i only got 2gig of ram and i heard that java dont work very well on 64bit and i use java quite a bit.

Any help?

You’ll find lots of previous threads with both sides of the issue. I just want to mention that Java is not an issue, except for the browser plugin, and there apparently is a 64-bit plugin in testing at this moment. So if you are only developing Java servlets, there is no issue at all with 64-bit.

openSUSE Lizards » Finally: 64 bit Java Browser Plugin from Sun

64 bit is a little faster, but you likely won’t notice a difference in normal desktop usage.

well no i play runescape which is a java based game so what you guys this i should do?

can i install the 32bit plugin and then use the 64bit one when its released?

you can use the 32bit, but the browser has to be 32bit also

o and there is a 64bit plugin now, it uses sun and iced-tea though, so it’s not completely sun

if you get runescape hd working please tell me

and 64bit can be faster or the same depending on what you do, look at it this way, normaly your processor thinks 32bits per hert, a 64bit processor thinks 64 bits per hert, so it can be twice as fast, but you need to be doing some pretty advanced stuff to take that much out of the processor,

however if you are on a laptop, and do do advanced stuff, i would go 32bit, mine overheats all the time, but when i went 32bit it had to slow down and it stopped overheating, takes me twice as long to compile kernels though:(
