15.3 LEAP Beta - Repo Warning (possibly a noob question lol)

Hey there OpenSUSE Community,

Please excuse my possibly noob question for this 15.3 LEAP Beta testing but I am hoping one you could help educate me on an area I am misunderstanding.

Today, I installed OpenSUSE 15.3 to my new laptop. I wanted 15.3 Beta because I was hoping to provide UE details that could help the OpenSUSE Dev team.

Using CLi, I noticed a warning pop-up in the feed:

Warning: Repository 'Main Update Repository' appears to be outdated. Consider using a different mirror or server.

Noticing this warning, I did a sudo zypper repo --details to verify what the ‘Main Update Repository’ was pointing to and saw this:

10 | repo-update | Main Update Repository | Yes | (r ) Yes | Yes | 99 | rpm-md | http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/15.3/oss/ |

So, I went to the repo location provided at the location of:

https://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/15.3/oss/

Seeing not much there and updated February 21st, I figured that this was just a non refresh location so that might be the reason(?) but I really have no clue lol.

Also, I was thinking that maybe this warning was a flag notice that is just being thrown up because this is beta so the repo might not be registered as accurate/stable so the system believes it is out of date.

If there is an obvious misunderstanding or lack of investigation on my part, would you mind pointing me to the direction where I might be able to read up and better understand what I am misunderstanding?

Thanks for all of your help and I look forward to growing in this community.

You can ignore that message. While in beta, 15.3 is a rolling release like TW. As such, updates as such are very unusual. There may be some bug that leads you to see such a message, but you’ll be able to install and use 15.3 just fine while disregarding it. If it turns out to be blocking, simply disable it with zypper dr or using YaST. When I checked earlier, current packages were time-stamped the 15th.

You can ignore that.

At this stage of development, the update repo isn’t actually being used. If there is anything there at all, it is probably just a test package for testing updates.

Once 15.3 reaches its final release, then the update repo will be used for all updates. But, during the development phase (which includes the Beta phase), just about all changes are made in the main repo (and a perhaps few in the non-oss repo).

Ah, ok. Thanks for the information clarification and sharing, mrmazda. I appreciate your help!

Ahhh, ok. That makes sense.

Well, at least full release is July 2021. So far, the experience has been positive without any distractions, hiccups, or complications.

OpenSUSE has been a very wonderful experience, thus far
