First, I didn’t want to install the Nvidia proprietary driver until 13.2RC1 hits the street.
Second, 0n my Optimus configured laptop, I installed with nomodeset, gets the built-in Intel video up & it turned out excellent what with Bumblebee in the repo for my nvidia card.
Therefore, I mistakenly added nomodeset parameter when installing to my desktop and the video wound up to be the fbdev graphic driver which appears basic. No problem says I, I’ll just remove nomodeset where required and then change NO_KMS_IN_INITRD to “no” with the sysconfig editor in YAST. & then, mkinitrd.
That doesn’t work as the developers have removed that from **yast > System > /etc/sysconfig Editor > System > Kernel.
**So, I go to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf file and tried “nouveau” then “nv” neither of which worked giving me a segfault; so, I cleaned that up. Upon rebooting, i started getting klint and kdeamon (I think) failures. I was compounding my errors.
So I reinstalled without using nomodeset and all is well.
The reason I posting my mistake is that when users start adding and removing the Nvidia proprietary driver it will turn on that NO_KMS_IN_INITRD to “yes” by default I do believe. & may well be an issue.
BTW, I have an extensive multiboot array, and I installed 13.2B1 bootloader in the partition; then rebooted into 13.1 and reinstalled it’s bootloader (MBR of sda) after ticking find all other OSes; works like a champ!!!
Can’t wait for 13.2RC1; bought a new SDD and trying to make all my learning curve mistakes now.
Have fun!
