13.2 is Locking/Crashing My System

Greetings,

Since installing 13.2 from 13.1 my system has been randomly locking. By locking I mean that I’m able to move my cursor around on the screen and that’s all. I’m unable to engage any existing window, any element on the task bar, or anything else. My only recourse is to reboot. I usually hit alt-ctrl-f2 which presents a command-line login prompt to which I login as root and then type in ‘reboot’ or I do a hardware reset.

This is a stand-alone box and I’m the only one affected. This locking occurs randomly; sometimes once every two days to up to 4 times a day. I am unable to correlate any action or activity that is common to the locking. I usually have at least one Firefox window open, sometimes a terminal window is open, sometimes the Bluefish HTML editor. I’ve also had it lock with Opera instead of Firefox. I’m at a total loss as to the cause. I’ve searched this forum and googled to no avail for similar problems, and am currently assuming that this has something to do with my configuration. I enjoyed using 13.1 for about a year with no problems whatsoever, but this began with my 13.2 installation.

I have had a ‘few’ KWin crash notifications presented but cannot necessarily associate those with the locking of the system.

I’ve included some system info below as well as a slice of the journalctrl around the time of a recent crash in an effort to provide more info. My apologies if it’s too much.

I’m happy to provide any additional info you may require in resolving this issue. Any assistance or workarounds to assist me is thoroughly appreciated.

Then it is not “locking” at all.
Apparently the desktop (plasma-desktop) is crashing.
Press Alt+F2 and run “plasma-desktop” to restart it.

According to your backtrace you are using btrfs, and that’s what seems to cause the crashes.
There seems to be a problem with KDE (i.e. plasma-desktop) crashing on btrfs all the time on some systems (I never had a single crash on mine though, and I’m using btrfs since over a year).

Updating your kernel might help, or re-install with ext4 as root file system.
