13.2 Broadcom 4313 wireless not working

Newbie to linux. Loaded up OpenSuse 13.2. Have a dell latitude e6530 with broadcom 4313 wireless card. After initial install, a wireless card was known but no wireless networks could be found. I know there are some because I have another laptop that is currently working with wireless. I read some posts and decided to get broadcom-wl from packman and it installed lots of extras. Now I can’t see wireless networks or even that it has a wireless card anymore.

Could someone please help?

Thanks!

Please post the output of “/sbin/lspci -nnk” to see the exact model you have. The broadcom-wl driver does not support all Broadcom chips (although it should support the 4313, it doesn’t support the 43131 e.g.), and installing it disables the standard driver which seemed to at least recognize the card (maybe it would even work fully if you installed the necessary firmware).

And please also post which broadcom-wl and kernel-packages you have installed:

rpm -qa | egrep "broadcom|kernel"

Thanks Wolfi

kernel-desktop-3.16.7-7.1.x86_64

thanks!!

I installed the same wifi yesterday.
But there was one trick.
I also installed broadcom-wl package, but it did not work as it was in your case.
I noticed that kernel-default package was installed like dependency. It was suspicious for me, because system is using kernel-desktop.
So I decided to exchange broadcom-wl with broadcom-wl-desktop package.
And after restart wifi was working.

What is the broadcom-wl-desktop package? I don’t see that in any repository. Not sure but I’m new to this…

You need to add the Packman Repository which contains the broadcom-wl and broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop.

YAST -> Software -> Repositories -> Add -> Community Repositories -> check mark Packman, OK OK and then you can zypper in broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop and reboot.
