13.2 beta 1 installation issue with WLAN card

13.2 beta 1 contains an error at installation point.

It allows you (finally!) to select your network configuration card before installation, so far so good, I tried to configure my intel WLAN adapter, the list of SSIDs works as expected, I select WPA2 as encryption method, put my password, and here is where the error occurs, as the installation is asking me for iw and wpa_supplicant packages. I’m installing from an sd card, but looks like this process is not willing to look there, at this point the only choice you have is to cancel the installation and restarting again.

Is this a known issue or should I report a bug?

Yes, this is a known issue. See bug 888805

The problem is actually fixed in factory, but apparently the fix was too late for Beta1.

In a recent install of factory, it did configure my WiFi card. However, it then did the install without actually connecting.

With Beta1, the trick is to hit the “Next” key without attempting to configure WiFi. That skips the section and moves on to the next step in installation.

Interesting. What I want to achieve is to use the network on the final installation, so I can install even the patches or the latest packages that could be on the server but not on my sd card.

Thanks.

You can do an online update, immediately after the first boot.

However, yesterday I tried installing with the NET installer iso (snapshot 20141001). It configured the WiFi, but did not connect, so the install attempt failed.

I’ll try that again in a few days, with a newer snapshot.

Could be you’re having trouble with the ifup replacement, “wicked”.
Suggest trying Network Manager instead if that’s the case.

openSUSE 13.2-m0 (64-bit); KDE 4.14.1; AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor;
Kernel: 3.16.2; Video: nVidia GeForce 210 (using nouveau driver);
Sound: ATI SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)

This is before install. I’ve booted the NET install media, and used the curses interface to configure the network.

I doubt that NetworkManager is on the NET install media, and without a desktop I would not know how to configure a connection even if NetworkManager is there.

Installing on the same computer with DVD media works, and wicked is able to configure the WiFi after install.
