13.1 Suse glitchy graphics

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting so be kind if you can.

I am running OpenSuse 13.1 GNOME on my Asus Q301LA laptop.
4th Gen Intel i5
Intel HD 4400 Graphics.

The issue I am having is with the interface. Whenever I scroll over any icons, there is a checkboard-ish effect on the icon.
Also, if I have multiple tabs open on certain applications such as gedit, the tab names are unreadable.

If I run on nomodeset, I don’t have that issue anymore. I do however, run into the issue that I can no longer adjust brightness or put the computer into sleep/hibernate at all.

I have tried removing and reinstalling my linux partition a couple times and nothing changed.
I have made sure that everything was updated with zypper up.

I have tried to google the issue but with no luck. I also skimmed numerous pages of this forum, still with no luck.

I attached some photos I took. I’m really sorry for them being so big, I have no idea how to change that.

Just to be sure did you run updates?

Yes, I did.

Probably a bug in the intel driver.

Try to switch to the older but more stable UXA acceleration:

I did what the link said, but nothing changed. By chance, do I need to run any commands after I save the changes to the file?

No, just reboot.

If it doesn’t help, I have no idea.

Maybe try to upgrade the kernel, Xorg, Mesa, and drivers to the latest version.
You could also try a Factory LiveCD (as this would contain those latest versions) to see if the problem is there as well.
