13.1 RC2 install

New hardware, laptop Toshiba Satellite A7288
fresh install of 13.1 RC2 using DVD (fresh home)

Fn keys to dim screen and brighten screen do not work

HP scanner MFP3300 shows in lsusb and dmesg but all attempts to use it
result in an error:

Skanlite: Opening the selected scanner failed.
xsane: Failed to open device
‘hpaio:/usb/HP_Laserjet_3300_3310_3320?serial=00SGH1B105K’: invalid
argument.

Scanner works fine in a VB Win 7 install so not a hardware problem.

Attempts to install using UEFI were unsuccessful, most likely my
inexperience using UEFI.

Using <CTRL><ALT>F1 to access tty1 works but any attempt to use <ALT> F?
to return to graphic session is fruitless.

A configuration issue perhaps?

It should be supported

HP Linux Imaging and Printing

Maybe you should run

hp-check -t

to look for any particular issues or errors.

The above command reports many problems about missing software only
because of the version number. Full text follows:

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before
compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the
proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a
distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP
supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This
mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time
dependencies).

Check types:
a. EXTERNALDEP - External Dependencies
b. GENERALDEP - General Dependencies (required both at compile and run
time)
c. COMPILEDEP - Compile time Dependencies
d. [All are run-time checks]

Run 'hp-doctor' command to prompt and fix the issues.

I installed 13.1 RC2 32-bit KDE from the DVD iso on a USB stick. I added HPLIP during the initial installation. After reboot I used YaST to add our HP cm1312nfi MFP using hp-setup. That seemed to work OK, but I did not try much printing or scanning.

After reading this thread, I ran

 hp-check -t

and had about the same missing packages as kensch. As suggested by hp-check, I ran

hp-doctor

and it installed 20 packages. Xsane now accesses the scanner.

Howard

After running hp-doctor and installing missing packages I found many
files missing, After fixing that by force updating installed packages
hp-doctor reports only one warning about a non HP printer (my Xerox
printer). But I still get the same errors from scanlite and xsane. Guess
I just need to wait for 13.1 GM.
