13.1 & KDE. Problem with graphics (default driver)

Hello!

I just installed 13.1 with KDE on a Asus Pro50n laptop with Nvidia 7000m gfx-card. Everything went smooth, but when I booted up first time after install was done, there were some issues. First, the bottom panel was missing, and if I move my mouse over it, it flashes back but only under the mouse. I managed to start Yast, but it’s like the screen is not refreshed so everything piles up so it gets messed up and not usable.

So, how can I start in “failsafe” mode to install the nvidia drivers? Perhaps they work better…

Thanks!

Select “Recovery Mode” under “Advanced Options” in the boot menu. Or press ‘e’, search for the line starting with “linux” and append “nomodeset”, then press ‘F10’ to boot.

And yes, that’s apparently an issue with nouveau, a few other people did have the same symptoms…
The nvidia driver should work well, but the official repo is not available yet, so you would have to install it “the hard way”.
Use the 304.116 version:
NVIDIA DRIVERS Linux Display Driver - x86 (32bit)
NVIDIA DRIVERS Linux x64 (AMD64/EM64T) Display Driver (64bit)

For instructions, see here: SDB:NVIDIA the hard way - openSUSE

Thank you! Pressed ‘e’ and added “nomodeset”. I’m booting my laptop now and… worked! Looks ugly but now I can use Yast and so on
Also great with the links! I really appreciate it! Thank you again!
