I can’t get rid of that “Desktop” thingy. How can I get rid of it?

There is no option to remove, but you can slide it to the top right corner where it gets small and does not say desktop. This a KDE desktop thing and not really an openSUSE thing.
Thank You,

Or you could change to folder view. And a plain colour background,
if you don’t like geckos.

OP already appears to be using Folder View
But as jmcdaniel3 says - it is part of the KDE desktop. I don’t think you can remove it but it can be made less obtrusive by sliding to a corner.
edit: there are a couple of plasma widgets that claim to be able to hide the cashew. Py Cashew and Stealth Cashew.
I haven’t tried them so can’t report on effectiveness.
To get them just click on Add Widgets > Get New Widgets and search for them.
I had never been bothered much by the “Desktop thingy”, never used it at all. But when I read through this thread I decided to mess around with it.
I had pulled mine over to be centered at the top of the screen. So I grabbed it with the mouse and started trying to pull it downward. It didn’t move, but when I got the mouse about halfway down the screen, the “Thingy” disappeared.
And now I can’t figure out where it went or how to get it back…
Well, you can only drag it along the screen borders.
Maybe you dragged it below the panel?
Click on the toolbox on the right end of the panel, click on “Screen Edge” and drag it to somewhere else, or hide it temporarily to see if it’s there.
Right. It’s hidden behind the panel.
So I guess this is a way to make it invisible though it does not go away completely.
Right-click on the desktop, then Folder View Settings
Select Tweaks
Uncheck ‘Show the desktop toolbox’

Hope this helps. I can’t see the screenshot to be sure
Thanks for your contribution.
But I hope you are aware of the fact that this is a very old thread, and is about KDE4.
Your suggested option only exists in Plasma5, and only in recent versions of that either (should be in Leap 42.1 already though IIRC).
So, if your intention is good, please open a new thread about it.
I’m closing this one now because we don’t really want/need new comments here.
