13.1 Gnome Logs Out By Itself

Hi guys. So i had a problem with openSUSE 13.1. I was just normally using my computer, and it randomly logged out by itself.

Here’s the outputs:

Then var/log/xorg.0.log.old for the two errors i got:

I have all of the regular updates installed, with the latest intel driver coming through regular repositories.

Do you have the latest intel driver from the update repo installed? That one fixes some X crashes.

rpm -qi xf86-video-intel

Hm, you could also try to switch to UXA acceleration:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_Graphics#Choose_acceleration_method

Hi Wolfi, thanks for your quick answer. Here’s the output of the command you posted.

Summary : Intel video driver for the Xorg X server
Description :
intel is an Xorg driver for Intel integrated video cards.

The driver supports depths 8, 15, 16 and 24. All visual types are
supported in depth 8. For the i810/i815 other depths support the
TrueColor and DirectColor visuals. For the i830M and later, only the
TrueColor visual is supported for depths greater than 8. The driver
supports hardware accelerated 3D via the Direct Rendering Infrastructure
(DRI), but only in depth 16 for the i810/i815 and depths 16 and 24 for
the 830M and later.
Distribution: openSUSE 13.1

Switching to UXA seems to have done the trick. Is it possible my graphic’s card is too old for newer acceleration?

Well, the SNA support in the driver is quite new and may still have bugs…

If your gfx card is too old, the driver should just switch back to a supported acceleration method instead, AFAIK.

Hi,

I apparently have the same problem. The content of the Arch link is quite technical. Would you list the commands you sent to the system?

Thanks!

Create a file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf, f.e. with:

gnomesu gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

and put the following text into it:

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Intel Graphics"
    Driver "intel"
    Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

Hi,
please test the package at

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/sumski:/bnc853085/openSUSE_13.1/

This contains one fix in regards to server segfaulting on older gen. Note that sna accel is supported for gen2 and newer, so, in theory at least, unless you have a veeeeeeery old card, it should work. Only thing/problem with sna is that is a newer kind of acceleration, thus there are still bugs there.
The fix is valid only if you use sna, not if you reverted to uxa

Sumski, this seems to have done the trick for me. No problems until now. If they start again, I’ll report here.

Does this mean that the issue happened only now, or the issue did not re-appear yet? lol!

Hi, I have the same problem: Gnome logs out randomly. It seems to happen only when Skype is open but I’m not sure.
I would like to upload a log file but I don’t know which one is correct:

Xorg.0.log
Xorg.0.log.old (if I try to open this it tells that there is no application for opening backup files)
Xorg.1.log

What have I do to provide in order to let you help me?

Thank you in advance for any help.

wolfi323’s trick worked perfectly for me.
